RM Learning Platform

Turning your vision into reality.

The vision for the RM Learning Platform is a world where ICT is fully integrated into the way schools work, where every user has access to appropriate information and tools to enable them to be as effective as possible.

RM's Learning Platform pulls together best of breed products from a range of suppliers to create a solution for schools and sectors that meets their requirements. RM has implemented a number of system wide solutions based on this ethos, such as Warwickshire We-Learn and Glow in Scotland.

Many schools and sectors already have elements of this environment, but few of their systems interact to share common information. Data integration is the key to unlocking the power and benefits of learning platform technologies. When information from the school MIS is integrated into the learning platform, it is possible to build a holistic picture of a pupil that includes behaviour, attendance and attainment data.

Information, resources, communication and collaboration tools are all displayed to the user in one place using portal technologies.

Through a secure single sign-on, users no longer have to physically move, or close and open different applications to learn or teach.

Users now have the power to work and learn efficiently and effectively wherever they are, at a time that suits them.

The RM Kaleidos Learning Platform is a family of products and services, built to provide educational establishments with a flexible and scaleable approach to adopting a learning platform. Developed to open standards, the range includes:
  • RM Kaleidos Portal+ - a dynamic and scaleable Web-based education portal providing every user with a personal online learning space.
  • RM Kaleidos Data Exchange - sophisticated technology that simplifies user management and enables data from the MIS and diverse systems to be integrated and presented via Portal+.
  • RM Kaleidos VLE - a powerful whole-school content management and delivery solution for both teachers and learners with tools for planning and delivering lessons and recording attainment information on individual learners. Kaleidos VLE is designed specifically to help schools embed ICT into subject teaching, and introduce the benefits of ICT into teaching and learning, the core business of the school. Provides teachers with the tools to: plan and prepare courses and lessons, deliver courses and lessons, including whole class teaching, assign work to students and track and monitor student progress. RM is working in partnership with leading educational publishers and content developers. Together, we are developing a range of software titles, taking advantage of the extensive functionality in Kaleidos VLE. Pre-tagged and mapped to educational frameworks, objectives and outcomes as well as keywords to aid teachers in planning and delivery of the most appropriate and educationally relevant resources available.
To build on existing investments in ICT, the RM Kaleidos Learning Platform conforms to open standards and is compatible with other open and non-proprietary systems that already exist or may be purchased in the future.

A Learning Platform enables:
  • Teachers to tailor learning to meet the needs of individual pupils - work can be set, reviewed and assessed depending on each student’s ability and preferred learning style.
  • Students to access their work and resources from school or home, and to submit assignments using their personal online learning space.
  • Parents to engage with their child’s learning by accessing their e-portfolio from any computer with Internet access and secure login.
  • Multi-agency workers to access information from different agencies to build a picture of children at risk, informing and enabling professionals to take the appropriate action.
  • Advisers and teachers to collaborate and communicate together, using online subject forums to share ideas and lesson plans, across the school or sector.
